The three finalists, Sławomir Kowalewski, baritone from Poland, Julia Muzychenko, soprano from Russia and Beomseok Choi, baritone from South Korea, received a total of six awards assigned according to the decision of two juries and the decision of the audience. Prizes were presented upon the end of the Gala Concert of the Third International Competition for Young Singers Zinka Milanov.
Sławomir Kowalewski is the winner of the first prize of the expert international jury and a special prize of the CNT Ivan pl. Zajc Opera, Julia Muzychenko is the winner according to the decision of the audience and she is second according to the decision of the expert international jury, Beomseok Choi having won the third prize of the international jury and a special prize of the CNT Ivan pl. Zajc Opera.
While, owing to the sponsors, the international jury assigns money awards, the awards of the Rijeka Opera jury secure the appearance in one of the opera of concert productions during the following two seasons.
The first prize was presented by Mr. Erkki Ranta, general manager of the Rijeka Oil Refinery, the second prize by Mrs. Nataša Rakovac-Rustja, authorised agent of the PK d.o.o. company, on behalf of the sponsor, PK-Palfinger Kran and the third prize by Damir Štifanić, M.D., on behalf of the sponsor, the Special Hospital Dr. Nemec.
When it comes to the audience award, all who wanted to circle a number before the name of their favourite contestant, found it to be a difficult dilemma, commenting: “It’s hard to choose the best singer when in the finals all are – the best!”
Next to the awarded ones, the finalists of the Third International Competition for Young Singers Zinka Milanov were Ceren Aydin Akkoç from Turkey, Anabela Barić from Croatia, Anna Litvin from Russia, Youdae Won from South Korea, Margareta Matišić From Croatia, Leela Subramaniam from USA and Ewa Banasiak from Poland.
The finalists performed accompanied by the Rijeka Opera orchestra conducted by Maestro Marco Boemi, in front of the full auditorium and happy audience that followed and supported them with a loud and heartfelt applause.
