BEST OPERA ACHIEVEMENTS AND BEST CONCERT HONORED IN AUDIENCE AWARDS CEREMONY

“A first-rate concert! Brilliant orchestra, brilliant conductor, a true pleasure,” is just one of the comments that could be heard after this evening’s performance of the symphony concert “Mussorgsky, Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky”, led by the chief guest conductor, Philipp von Steinaecker, and with a solo performance by soprano Anamarija Knego, once again delighted the Rijeka audience.

After the concert, the audience awards were given out for the best achievements in the opera program and the best concert of last season, half of which ended up in the hands of the participants in tonight’s concert.
The Milan Pichler Award for the best male role according to audience votes was awarded to Georgio Surian for his performance as Baron Scarpi in Tosca. Stefano Surian accepted the award on his father’s behalf, passing on his gratitude to the audience.
After she received the Štefanija Lenković Award for the roles of Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly and Cleopatra in Julius Caesar in Egypt – Anew, Anamarija Knego especially thanked and applauded the audience who, even in this uncertain time, has not given up coming to the theatre.
Dražen Siriščević, the director of the show Madama Butterfly, which, according to the audience, was the best opera performance of last season, could not be in Rijeka tonight to receive the Boris Papandopulo Award, so he sent his thanks in video format to the Rijeka audience even earlier.
The Lovro pl. Matačić Award for the best concert of the 2019/2020 season was presented to maestro Von Steinaecker for the performance of Mahler’s Second Symphony – “Resurrection”, which, as he emphasized, he shares with the musicians of the Rijeka Symphony Orchestra, members of the Rijeka Opera Choir, and members of the HRT Symphony Orchestra and Choir who performed it together.
