Premiere THE MAGIC FLUTEWofgang Amadeus Mozart
FIRST PERFORMANCE IN RIJEKA – 230 YEARS AFTER MOZART’S DEATH
Libretto: Emanuel Schikaneder
Mozart’s The Magic Flute, the author’s last opera and one of the most successful and most famous operas of all time, will be shown for the first time on the stage of the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc in Rijeka! This timeless story of the symbolic struggle between good and evil, personified in the characters of the high priest Sarastro and the Queen of the Night, includes love stories between Prince Tamino and Princess Pamina, as well as Papageno the bird-catcher and Papagena, in addition to many famous musical numbers and numerous universal messages that transcend historical and geographical barriers. The Magic Flute is also special in that it combines a simple play (or Singspiel), sometimes based on folk and sometimes on Mozart’s typical playful melodic styles, with the deepest and most serious pages of a musical score from the final year of the author’s life.
