Twelfth Night, or What You Will is one of Shakespeare’s most performed and most popular comedies, and was created during the most mature period of his career. The plot is based on a seemingly classic love triangle, in which a girl disguised as a young man seduces a woman on behalf of the man she loves, and that woman falls in love with the girl thinking she is a young man. In this confusion, the very essence of attraction, identity and love is questioned.

After expertly adapting Daša Drndić’s novel and directing the play Leica Format, Goran Ferčec and Franka Perković return to the Rijeka stage with Shakespeare. It is in the comedy of confusion and character that this artistic duo opens the space of present dialogue with a story of delusion, gender and gender identities, wrong decisions, deceit, longing, lies, conceit, comedy, tragedy and everything that belongs to a wide field of discourse surrounding love. This scenic reading of Shakespeare aims to examine these topics today, deepen questions about the fluidity of identity and call for the acceptance of those expressions and challenges of love that take place outside socially normative discourses and practices.

The show lasts one hour and forty-five minutes and is performed without an intermission.
