Magnificent Aida – performance to be remembered on the stage of the Opatija Open Air Theatre; Magnificent Aida delighted the audience of the Opatija Open Air Theatre; Golden glow of Aida for the diamond anniversary of the Open Air Theatre… These are only some of the titles in the media commenting the last night’s performance of Verdi’s Aida in the full open air theatre in Opatija, before almost 2,000 delighted spectators!
Under the baton of Maestro Tibor Bogany, in the dramaturgy and direction of Marin Blažević and the performance of the CNT Ivan pl. Zajc Opera, the golden Rijeka-Opatija Aida marked spectacularly the sixty years of the Opatija Open Air Theatre. Besides the long and hearty applause of the delighted audience, there was also a big firework in the end.
According to the comments, the spe21ctators were happy with all segments of the performance, costumes by Sandra Dekanić, set design by Dalibor Laginja, lighting by Dalibor Fugošić, but primarily by soloists led by the brilliant Kristina Kolar in the title role. It actually is as she said, namely, that Aida seems to be written into her body.
“The production was great, powerful, brilliant and rhapsodic owing to the heavenly performance of Kristina Kolar in the role of Aida. Her singing touched the soul; her vocal pitch brought the house down; her ease of production, beautiful dynamics and perfect diction raised the performance to a high level of musical expression. Pure, chamber direction of precise dramaturgy, interesting lighting design and unusual and effective costumes splendidly filled this everlasting story of love and homeland”, wrote Glorija Fabijanić Jelović in her review for the Croatian Radio–Radio Rijeka.
