“Become River,” a composition by the increasingly popular American composer John Luther Adams, will have its Croatian premiere in Rijeka. The extremely suggestive and aptly named composition will continue the series of thus-far unperformed compositions. Shostakovich’s Twelfth Symphony, subtitled “The Year of 1917,” is dedicated to Vladimir Lenin. The author composed the symphony programmatically, with reflections on the most important events of Lenin’s life, including his death. Quotations from various songs, funeral marches and the composer’s earlier works also play an important role. Because of this, the Twelfth Symphony was often called the folk heroic epic. The orchestra will be conducted by the main guest conductor of the Rijeka Symphony Orchestra, Vila Matvejeff.
