Mariano Buccino is a rising Italian bass. In the current season 2023/24 Mariano could be seen as Timur in Turandot at the Malmo Opera; Sparafucille in Rigoletto at the Israeli Opera and Enrico in Anna Bolena at the Croatian National Theater in Rijeka.
His recent engagements include Oroveso in Norma at the Teatro Carlo Felice Genova, Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni at Sassari Opera, debut as Silva in Ernani at the Sarasota Opera and as Gennaro in Napoli Milionaria by Nino Rota in Pavia, Como, Bergamo and Cremona.
Among Mariano Buccino’s past engagements are the roles of Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni, King Re in Aida at the Gran Teatre del Liceu di Barcelona; Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Ferrando in Il Trovatore, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova; Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni at the Israeli Opera Tel Aviv; Ramfis in Aida; Sparafucile in Rigoletto and Don Basilio in Il Barbiere at the Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari, Timur in Turandot and Colline in La Bohéme in Teatro Lirico di Cagliari.
On the concert stage Mariano Buccino performed in Verdi’s Messa da Requiem in memory of the victims of Hiroshima under the baton of Tomomi Nishimoto and in the presence of Pope Benedict XVI at the Basilica of San Paolo fuori le mura in Rome, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle at the International Festival of Sacred Music in the church of Santa Giulia di Livorno and Rossini’s Tancredi (Orbazzano) at the Musikfest Bremen.
Born in Naples in 1987, Mariano Buccino sang in a boys’ choir in his childhood. He graduated from the San Pietro a Majella’s Conservatory in Naples with summa cum laude. Buccino subsequently joined the Opera Studio of the Santa Cecilia Academy in Rome, studying under the guidance of Renata Scotto. He furthered his studies under the guidance of the soprano Donata D’Annunzio Lombardi (Daltro Canto Method).
In 2015 Marianno Buccino was a finalist of the 53rd Voci Verdiane International Singing Competition in Busseto. He also won the 7th International Singing Competition of the Città di Ravello and the 65th “AsLiCo” International Vocal Competition, that offered him the opportunity to perform the role of Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni, staged by Graham Vick for Opera Lombardia.
