LIVING THEATERAn Architectural Walk
Meeting Point: Theater Square (Kazališni trg) – HNK Ivan pl. Zajc
Walk Route: Lido – Kalvarija – Sušak (active theaters)
This interpretative walk will cover three theaters built during the Historicism, Art Nouveau (Secession), and Modernism periods that remain active today: the Municipal Theater (now HNK Ivan pl. Zajc), which has been operating for 141 years; Teatro Thalia (now KUC Kalvarija), active for 116 years; and the National Home (HKD Sušak), active for 79 years.
The tour will visit the former site of the grand Adamić Theater, as well as several small-stage locations near the Old Town and Kalvarija. It will also highlight the spots where the first performances on Sušak took place and share the story of why Sušak had to wait a full 22 years for its grand theater to finally become a reality.
