RIJEKA’S “LACE” TO HOLD GUEST PERFORMANCES IN BELGRADE AND NOVI SAD

15 September 2020

Rijeka’s successful ballet “Lace” (“Čipka”), by choreographer Maša Kolar and composer Tena Novak Vincek will perform at the 17th Belgrade Dance Festival on Tuesday, September 22 at the Madlenianum Opera in Belgrade, and at the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad on Wednesday, September 23.

Choreographer Maša Kolar found inspiration in Croatian tradition and folklore, such as music, dance, folk costumes, and, of course, the craft of making Pag lace. The structure and rhythm of lace is the basis for the choreographic design and dance elements, but also for the relationship between performers. The ballet “Lace” addresses our heritage and its relevance today, as well as what we as a modern society can learn from old customs.

This ballet, an excellent and impressive combination of tradition and dance inspired by the production and ornamentation of Pag lace, has already delighted the audiences of Rijeka and Šibenik, and will now also be presented outside Croatia.

Don’t forget that new performances of “Lace” at the CNT Zajc are once again on the program for September 26, 28 and 29, starting at 8 PM.
