Tickets are available for the new opera premiere (February 22) of Wagner’s “Tristan and Isolde.” The opera—the first of Wagner’s to be shown in Rijeka—will be directed by Anne Bogart, an American filmmaker who has directed an impressive number of operas in the greatest opera houses around the world. In the role of Isolde is Maida Hundeling, unforgettable in her role as Elektra in Rijeka, and her partner on the stage is Lars Clevman, a Swedish tenor experienced in Wagner’s opera repertoire.
If you are eager to experience captivating music performed by top international musicians, February will not disappoint. Two phenomenal concerts are scheduled for the month, both as part of the European Capital of Culture program. The wind ensemble Les Vents Français performs in Rijeka on February 6, thereby adding to the long list of world-class theatres and concert halls in which these musicians have built their careers. On February 14, the Rijeka stage will be graced by the Venice Baroque Orchestra, an group recognized as one of the best ensembles dedicated to baroque music and instruments. The soloist, Giuliano Carmignolo, is an Italian violinist and passionate connoisseur of Vivaldi, whose works will be performed on a Stradivarius violin during the exhibition “Violins Above Borders” at Rijeka’s Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral.
