RIJEKA’S LA TRAVIATA HOLDS GUEST PERFORMANCES IN PULA AND ZAGREB

7 April 2021

While we await the opportunity to reopen the doors of the theatre to our audience, Verdi’s La Traviata, conducted by Valentin Egel, will be a guest at the Istrian National Theatre in Pula tonight, April 7, and at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb on April 28. Our Theatre remains the only one in the region that, with a creative approach to epidemiological measures in the performance of complex musical and stage works, has been able to perform operas in front of a live audience, now also in Pula and Zagreb.

The creative team of Traviata, to the delight of all lovers of opera and theatre, was guided by the fact that spiritual health is just as important as physical health. Staging solutions arose precisely from today’s pandemic, i.e. the restrictive measures arising therefrom; the set design symbolizes isolation, the impossibility of touch and death in solitude. Rijeka’s Violetta is the principal singer of the Theatre, Anamarija Knego, who in this role “leapt out of the box,” and with her “crystal clear tone”expressed a full range of feelings and colors. The romantic partner of Anamarija Knego is played by, naturally, principal singer of the Theatre Aljaž Farasin in the role of Alfredo, and his father Giorgio Germont is played by Kevin Greenlaw.
