Composer and visual artist. His work combines performing arts with new technologies in music, as well as video and 3D computer-based images. He grew up with classical music and later turned to jazz, contemporary and electro-acoustic composition at the Conservatory of Music in Lyon, where he studied from 1997 to 2002. At the same time, he graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts (Beaux Arts de Lyon) and completed his studies in cinematography and new technology at the Fresnoy National Studio of Contemporary Arts (Studio National des Arts Contemporains du Fresnoy), working with Jean Luc Godard, André Labarth, Chantal Akerman, Alain Buffard, David Link, Paul Pachini and Christopher Kim. Since 2002, Julien has worked as a composer and set designer for choreographers such as Andonis Foniadakis, Benjamin Millepied, Davy Bruno and Ken Ossola. He composes for a number of dance companies, including the dance companies Marthe Graham, Apotosomu, Cedar Lake Contemporary, Dansgroup Amsterdam and the National Dance Company of Wales. He collaborates with composers, visual artists, writers and film directors.
