Violinist Tobias Feldmann has been praised for “rapturous lyricism” (The Telegraph) and “virtuosic energy” (Fanfare) in performances of repertoire ranging from Mozart and Beethoven to Sibelius, Bartók and Rautavaara.
Concerto highlights in the 2022/23 season for Tobias include debuts with the Helsinki Philharmonic (Rautavaara Concerto), BBC National Orchestra of Wales (Beethoven) and with the Berner Symphonieorchester (Mendelssohn). Tobias will also return to the Residentie Orkest (Mozart 4 and Mendelssohn), Bournemouth Symphony (Bruch Violin Concerto No.1) and BBC Philharmonic (Beethoven).
A laureate of the International Queen Elisabeth Competition (2015) and Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition (2012), recent highlights for Tobias have included performances with Minnesota Orchestra, Staatsorchester Hannover, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, WDR Sinfonieorchester, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, Orquestra Simfonica de Barcelona, BBC Scottish Symphony, Tampere Philharmonic, Uppsala Chamber Orchestra, Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra and Ensemble Resonanz, Moscow State Symphony, Brussels Philharmonic, Utah Symphony, Orchestre Symphonique de Québec; collaborating with Nathalie Stutzmann, David Afkham, Gemma New, Eivind Aadland, John Storgårds, Nicholas Collon, Karl-Heinz Steffens, Reinhard Goebel, Fabien Gabel and Marin Alsop amongst others.
An avid chamber musician, Tobias has performed at the Wiener Konzerthaus, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Vinterfest, Rheingau and Lockenhaus festivals, partnering with Kian Soltani, Denis Kozhukhin, Maximilian Hornung, Nicolas Altstaedt and Tabea Zimmermann. Future plans include a return the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festspiele and Amsterdam Concertgebouw as well as his Wigmore Hall debut.
In 2014 Tobias released his debut CD featuring works by Beethoven, Ysaÿe, Bartók and Waxman which immediately attracted widespread praise and attention from the international press. His second recital recording with pianist Boris Kusnezow was released in 2017, followed swiftly with his third album in May 2018 featuring concertos by Sibelius and Rautavaara with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royale de Liege on the Alpha Classics label.
Born in 1991 in Fulda, Germany, Tobias Feldmann received his first violin lessons at the age of seven before quickly progressing to the advanced class of Musikhochschule Würzburg. He then completed his studies in Berlin at the Musikhochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” with Antje Weithaas. At age of 26, Tobias was appointed as a professor at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg and in October 2022 will take up the position as professor at the renowned Hochschule für Musik und Theater „Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy“ in Leipzig, Germany.
