Yurika Kimura

Ballet beginner

Yurika started dancing at a local studio in Yokohama (Japan), and continued her training at Ayako Hattori Ballet class in Tokyo. Then she moved to Norway where she attended a bachelor programme in classical ballet, at Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO). There she studied under Josephine Jewkes, Irina Zavialova, and other pedagogues to improve her technique in both classical and contemporary ballet. At KHiO she performed many pieces such as La Sylphide, Paquita, and contemporary piece by Camilla Spidsøe etc. During her study, she got 3rd place in Tanzolymp in 2022. Also, she has participated in the Nutcracker with the Norwegian National Ballet in 2023. Upon her graduation performance, she got to dance some pieces choreographed by Mats Ek, under the direction of Allyson Way Wanselius. She has attended some courses including the spring course at the Joffrey Academy of Dance and International Summer Intensive in Helsinki. She has expanded her contemporary technique with the likes of Gaga, Graham, and learned Jorma Elo’s choreography etc. Yurika joins the Rijeka ballet company as a Erasmus+ stagiaire to gain experience and improve her skills.
