Rijeka is not only chronologically the first urban rock scene in Croatia; it is the first urban rock scene in the former socialist part of the world. It all started brewing in the second half of the 1950s, with American sailors who brought the viruses of a new Western pop culture packed with an infectious dance rhythm. Local young men and women embraced it immediately. Today, we can safely say they never gave up on it—quite the contrary.

Technologies, generations, and stylistic trends come and go, but new offshoots never stop sprouting from an enthusiasm that once took deep root. Guitar rock, electronica, punk, techno-pop, surf-rock, industrial, heavy metal, funk, indie, rap… They all live on the streets of Rijeka. Who is where? The answer awaits those who walk the streets…
