The charismatic Karita Mattila, with her inimitable compatriot maestro Ville Matvejeff and the exceptional Rijeka Symphony Orchestra, gave the audience an unusual, exciting evening to remember, truly one of the highlights of the ECOC concert program. Sibelius, Dvořák, and Puccini featured in the first part of the evening, with Wagner in the second part, and after a standing ovation from the audience, the diva decided to sing an encore, Sibelius’s “Illalle” (“Evenings”).
