OPERA GALA

The Opera Gala Concert, with which the Opera of the Slovenian National Theatre in Maribor is presenting itself to the Rijeka audience, is a step towards rapprochement and close artistic cooperation between related musical institutions of both countries. The rich musical tradition of the city of Maribor, inextricably linked to the centuries-old creative continuity of the Maribor theatre, is increasingly associated with innovative artistic practices marked by transculturalism and interdisciplinarity.

The concert program, designed by the artistic director of the Maribor Opera, Simon Krečić, features some of the most famous melodies of Italian bel canto, romantic opera and verism, which still enjoy great popularity today. Excerpts from various opera masterpieces by the most important Italian opera composers such as Giuseppe Verdi, Gioacchino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti and Gioacomo Puccini are joined by solo interpretations from cult French and Slovenian opera literature.

Accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of the Slovenian National Theatre in Maribor and conducted by Simon Krečić, the excellent soloists of the Maribor Opera who will be performing are sopranos Sabina Cvilak, Rebeka Lokar, Petya Ivanova, Andreja Zakonšek Krt and Valentina Čuden, mezzo-sopranos Irena Petkova, tenor Martin Sušnik and baritone Jaki Jurgec.
