Premiere SERENADE OF A SUMMER NIGHTKarlo Hubak
Riječki simfonijski orkestar
In the garden of the Astronomical Centre in Vežica, five friends meet — Rijeka retirees who wish to spend a pleasant evening together. They have invited an orchestra to perform a serenade for them. Join them!
To prepare for the serenade, the space must be arranged: chairs set up, cables connected, lights adjusted. But the most important preparation is not technical — the silence that music requires is not easily achieved. We listen burdened by worries and plans, opinions and habits. Do we have enough strength within us to truly quiet ourselves, relax, and surrender the space to sound? Only then might we truly experience music.
Serenade of a Summer Night, a composition for five friends and orchestra, is a new production by Karlo Hubak, an artist known for his distinctive authorship at the intersection of classical music and contemporary theatre. His second original work at the Rijeka Summer Nights Festival is a meeting of amateur and professional ensembles, of everyday life and celebration, of Rijeka’s routines and the desire to create something new together.
