WAGNER – DEBUSSY – BEETHOVENsymphonic concert
As the very title suggests, the concert programme features works by famous composers, specifically those who have marked the European and world music in general.
It will be the first time that Yordan Kamdzhalov, the Bulgarian conductor of the younger generation, will conduct the Rijeka Opera orchestra, making thus his first appearance before the Rijeka audience. The enthusiastic European reviewers have referred to his interpretations as those “of astonishing ferocity and courageous and uncompromising consistency”.
Kamdzhalov will present himself to the concert audience by conducting Overture to the Flying Dutchman by Richard Wagner, Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun by Claude Debussy and Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony known as The Destiny Symphony.
These composers were the ones to mark music epochs. Let us only mention that next to Verdi Wagner is the greatest opera composer of the 19th century who marked the beginning of the new German Romantic opera. With his musical style Claude Debussy was the founder of musical Impressionism, having coloured the Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun with a dreamy romanticism of Symbolist movement. The forceful and universal Fifth Symphony is one of the best-known Beethoven’s symphonies and one of the most popular works of classical music.
