The grand opening of the new 20/21 theatre season with the motto “survival,” which also marks the 135th anniversary of the opening of the Theatre building, awaits you on October 3, 2020. We hope you will join in the celebration of this extremely important date for our Theatre and our city. As a reminder, the opening program features not one but two operas. First is the revival of the Ivan pl. Zajc opera Nikola Šubić Zrinjski conducted by maestro Igor Vlajnić and directed by Dora Ruždjak Podolski, starting at 12 PM. The main roles are played by the soloists of the Rijeka Opera – Robert Kolar, Kristina Kolar, Anamarija Knego and Aljaž Farasin. The concert performance of Verdi’s opera Aida, led by the new house conductor Valentin Egel, is a charity event and begins at 8 PM. All proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the launch of the Giorgio Surian Opera Studio. The main roles will be played by Maida Hundeling, Dubravka Šeparović Mušović, Domagoj Dorotić and Giorgio Surian.
With the visuals of the new season we pose the question, “Will we survive?” Will Drama, Opera, Ballet — our entire Theatre — survive? What future awaits the performing arts?
We are relying mostly on our own capacities, but regardless of that, our program is diverse, containing resounding premiere titles, reprises of popular performances, and a number of symphony and chamber concerts. Enrollments for new subscriptions are currently in progress, and this season’s subscription program provides even more benefits than usual.
