Rijeka’s Kamov Youth Theatre, school of the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc, is enrolling its fourth generation of students in the new theatre season! Two studios have been organized this season as well: a drama studio for primary and secondary school children and a ballet-dance studio for children and young people aged 14 to 25. This year’s novelty is an additional drama group organized in the Italian language for children aged 8 to 12.
The audition for the drama studio will be held on September 21, 2020. The audition for primary school students in 1st to 8th grade will take place within the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc at 5 PM, while the audition for high school students will be held at 7 PM.
The DRAMA STUDIO has performed several productions in the past three seasons, such as the play “The Little Prince”, directed by Renata Carola Gatica, a play that was watched by more than 4,000 children and adults over just a few holidays. In the 2017/2018 season, the young actors and actresses completed the play “The Wizard of Oz,” directed by maestro Igor Vlajnić, while at the end of the 2018/2019 season, they presented the play “Ba(j)ke nisu krive” (“Fairytales Are Not Guilty”) directed by Zrinka Kušević and Renata Carola Gatica. Although the pandemic interrupted the last season, the participants of the drama and ballet-dance studio had the opportunity to participate in large theatre productions, specifically the plays “Evita” and “Practicing Life – Second Time”.
As part of its year-round program, the drama studio enables children and young people to acquaint themselves with the numerous theatre topics and traditions of our space, and special importance is placed on encouraging and developing creativity and spontaneity in children and young people. Collaborations are planned with numerous organizations and institutions operating in the field of education, but also projects that will connect the theatre for and with children to other media and arts, from radio drama to film work. The head of the drama studio is drama pedagogue Nikolina Hrga, and workshops in the field of acting and dance will be led by actresses and actors from the Croatian and Italian drama ensembles!
The BALLET-DANCE STUDIO will introduce students to the magic of the language of ballet, and develop creativity through improvisational dance techniques. The leaders of the ballet studio are ballet pedagogues Irina Köteles and Andrei Köteles, and during the year the workshops will be led by ballet artists, members of the Rijeka Theatre Ballet Ensemble. With professional guidance in study contents suited to their age, psychophysical abilities, and and thematic aspirations, students will receive the preparation necessary to enroll in academies in the field of dance arts.
Depending on the epidemiological situation, attendance of performances will be organized for the participants this season as well, and they will also be included as actors/extras/dancers in the productions of the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc. This season, the Kamov Youth Theatre of Rijeka will not only be a school of acting and dance, but also a generator of smaller, additional projects for children and youth, which help educate new, active audiences — those who deliberate on and love theatre.
Requests for audition times and enrollment in the new season may be sent by email to kamov@hnk-zajc.hr until September 20, and more information can be obtained at 099 702 23 61. Be sure to follow the official website of the Theatre and the Kamov Youth Theatre’s Facebook page!
In the hope that the uncertain pandemic situation will not interrupt our work and move us to a virtual environment, we are looking forward to meeting the new “Kamovians,” and to another exciting, educational season at the Theatre!
