Soon subscriptions will begin for the new 20/21 theatre season, which we announced as an ambitious program with the motto “Survival.” This season we are celebrating the 135th anniversary of the construction and opening of the Theatre building, and for the program we are primarily relying on our own capacities.
The season will open with not one but two opera titles: the renewal of the opera Nikola Šubić Zrinjski by Ivan pl. Zajc, and a concert performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida. During the season, the premiere opera program will feature Bizet’s Carmen and Verdi’s La Traviata, along with the Opera by Kamov, created and conducted by Zoran Juranić as part of the ECOC-Rijeka 2020 project, as well as ReCallas Medea by director and composer Carl Unander-Scharina. Further renewed operas awaiting you this season are Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and Massenet’s Werther.
The Rijeka Symphony Orchestra is preparing the concerts “Mozart: Requiem,” “Mussorgsky, Tschaikovsky,” “Beethoven, Shostakovich,” “Rameau, Ravel, Berlioz,” “Longing for Eternity: Mozart, Wagner, Ravel,” “Baranović, Stravinski, Brahms,” and “Concert Season Finale.” Soon we will also announce a cycle of chamber concerts under the artistic direction of Petar Kovačić.
The Croatian drama program includes resonant premieres such as the musical “Hair” by James Rado, “Dangerous Liaisons” by Christopher Hampton, “Steel Magnolias” by Robert Harling, and “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury.
The Italian drama company will present the premiere titles: “Il vangelo del nemico / Gospel of the Enemy”, by Roberta Dubac, “Adriatico” by Siniša Novković, “Fiume’s X-Mas” by Giuseppe Nicodemo, and “Alfa Romeo Jankovits” by Laura Marchig.
Both the Croatian and Italian drama companies are preparing one of the most significant works of world literature, Boccaccio’s “Decamerone.”
The ballet program features the premiere of “Odyssey” by the famous choreographic tandem of Walter Matteini and Ina Broeckx, as well as the premiere of the ballet evening “Pathetique” and “Brut,” the former work by the famous Douglas Lee of Britain, and the latter by Maša Kolar.
