Marking 100th anniversary of Leonard Bernstein’s birth

Leonard Bernstein, eminent conductor, composer, pacifist and human rights activist, also a legendary music teacher who, through TV broadcasts, used to teach the the whole world what he understood and loved best – music. Marking the hundredth anniversary of Bernstein’s birth Rijeka is celebrating this inspirational and charismatic musician with two new creations of our renowned choreographers, Maša Kolar and Igor Kirov. Two intriguing choreographers are conveying Bernstein’s life, music and conducting gesture into compositions and rhythms of the movement to mesmerise and propel to join our renewed and young ballet ensemble on the stage. Interesting and rhythmically complex scores of Bernstein’s Serenade challenge choreographer Igor Kirov to decompose and elaborate diverse movements, characters and human relations most of all. On the other hand, the Allegro ballet is presenting an open field of the play of bodies, music and movement as a place of pure dance with a diverse and rich range of moods and emotions, The hundredth Bernstein’s anniversary that during the year 2018 is being celebrated worldwide, is also the reason for the cooperation of the two Croatian national theatres, namely those of Rijeka and Split, and their Ballet ensembles.
