This production is amazing and captivating, original and totally innovative, restrained and rhythmical. A Goldonian classic that has been revised in a modern and joyous tone, at the same time also gloomy and dark, with a memorable Mirandolina interpreted by Valentina Banci. The Mistress of the Inn revised by director Paolo Magelli, who, re-reading the classical Goldoni, took away from Mirandolina all the clichés of the eighteenth century theatre, at the same time presenting her as a woman condemned to unhappiness.

Enthusiastic audience shouting its approval and a long-lasting applause showed the success of Magelli’s version of this classical work. Although the play was written almost three hundred years ago, this staging has proved The Mistress of the Inn to be a contemporary, universal drama that hides a number of tragic and realistic elements. It is these elements that Magelli prioritised, so that, in spite of comic scenes, feelings of oppression and regret occur in spectators after the performance.
