The opera Tosca premiered as part of the Puccini trilogy on November 9, 2019. This work, one of the most popular and most performed in the world’s opera repertoire and by far the most dramatic of all the operas directed by Marin Blažević, became a show in which the audience a different performance of Tosca in each of the three acts, that is, three different possible staging methods: starting with opera historicism, whose visuality is based on the beauty of theatrical painting and “authentic” costumes, followed by the “actualization” of the opera story, then an act in which the opera direction is reduced to only the necessary elements: music, drama, voice, acting, the personality of the performer and the intensity of the performance.
This Tosca was included among the best musical events of 2019 according to the selection of the editorial board of the specialized Italian web magazine Operaclick.com. In early 2020, it reached the list of the best in the world in competition with more than 400 musical events. Thanks to that, Rijeka’s Tosca found itself in the company of productions by the truly best and most famous in the world, such as Milan’s La Scala or New York’s Metropolitan Opera.
The show lasts 3 hours and is performed with two intermissions.
