Following the great success of Werther, we have the new French opera on our repertoire again. The timeless love story of Romeo and Juliet, in one of the most famous opera versions, the one by Gounod, will be staged in Rijeka in a significant coproduction with Teatro Alighieri and Fondazione Ravenna Manifestazioni. It is two wonderful casts with quite a number of international names that you will be able to see on the stage of magnificent splendour. In title roles there will be Rijeka stars Anamarija Knego and Aljaž Farasin. After the last season’s trilogy of Verdi’s operas inspired by Shakespeare’s dramatic texts, Marin Blažević continues to be engrossed in Shakespeare in opera. Romeo and Juliet is also an ideal title for all lovers of Shakespeare who still have to fall in love with opera. It is easy with Gounod as immensely beautiful melodies follow the whole opera, be it in love, fighting or tragic scenes.
