One of the most favourite ballet classics, based on the fantastic fairy tale by E.T.A. Hoffmann The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, thrills the audience of all generations still today. The last of the three great ballets by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, who, a year before his death, came back to the enchanting world of childhood and fairy tales, which soon after its first night in 1892 in St. Petersburg, became a favourite family classic in the pre-Christmas time and one of the most popular ballets altogether. Mauro de Candia, with his new version of The Nutcracker in elegant set and costume design solutions, with a dose of humour, presents a new view at this fairy tale. After the Hoffman’s literary work and music by Tchaikovsky, de Candia creates a new world between the reality and dream, in which the all-pervading enchantment resides. The invisible becomes visible, the dream becomes reality.
