After ten years exactly, Madama Butterfly is coming back on the Rijeka opera stage to present with its enchanting, sentimental an warm lyricism the heartbreaking story of a tragic love of a young Japanese woman for a reckless American naval officer. Puccini, fascinated with exoticism, joined the Japanese musical idiom with the traditional Italian melodiousness in an ideal way. The soloist cast features soloists of the Rijeka Opera only. Next to Anamarija Knego in the title role as Cio-Cio San, Aljaž Farasin will appear as Pinkerton, Ivana Srbljan as Suzuki and Robert Kolar as Sharpless.

The opera is conducted by Ville Matvejeff. For Dražen Sirišćević, originally from Rijeka, TV host of the legendary television programme Opera Box, it will be the first time to direct an opera in Rijeka. Moreover, the work of another Rijeka citizen will be prominent in this production, the costume design by the famous fashion designer Juraj Zigman, whose work at the split CNT caused undivided enthusiasm.
